The Non-Negotiables of Your Strength Training Program.

No doubt, exercise selection IS very important.

The training program you follow MUST push you closer to your goals, and different exercises/methods will create different adaptations.

But, oftentimes, strength coaches give themselves WAY too much credit.

If you are making gains from a training program, it isn’t due to the coach.

It’s due to YOU… although a good coach can help!

.

.

.

Much more important than the exercises selected is the INTENT, ATTITUDE, and MOTIVATION (IAM) that you attack a training program with!

INTENT

On a daily basis, an athlete must attack their training with vigor and purpose. Individual exercises MUST be completed with an intensity that promotes adaptations.

For example, completing a squat jump, but only getting 2 inches off the ground when you could get 15 inches off the ground… isn’t benefiting you.

Completing a set of 5 DB Goblet Squats with a 50 lb dumbbell, when you actually could be using a 75 lb dumbbell… isn’t benefiting you.

A training program is only as beneficial as an athlete pushes themselves within it.

ATTITUDE

No, you don’t need to be a happy, glass-half-full athlete all the time. That’s not what attitude is.

Attitude is attacking a training session with purpose. Attitude is deeper than what you portray to the outside world. It’s within you.

An athlete that shows up to a training session ready, eager, and HUNGRY to get after it… has an attitude.

Find your attitude.

MOTIVATION

What fuels you?

What drives that attitude?

What generates that intent?

I care way more about this than the squat variation you complete tomorrow.

The intent, attitude and motivation (IAM) you bring to a training session matters WAY more than the exercises laid out in front you.

An IAM athlete with no equipment WILL experience more growth than a non-IAM athlete with all of the equipment in the world.

An IAM athlete WILL tap into growth, no matter the exercise program laid out in front of them, as they are driven, purposeful and inspired by a fuel source that is much deeper than themselves.

Be IAM.
